TeamViewer Portable 15.22.3 (pc control, screen sharing) Released

A new version of TeamViewer Portable has been released. TeamViewer is a remote PC support/control and screen-sharing tool. You can remote control a partner’s desktop to give online assistance, or you can show your screen to a customer without worrying about firewalls, IP addresses and NAT. It’s packaged as a portable app so you can work on the go and it’s in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. It’s released as freeware for personal use (business/office use requires a license).

Using and Updating Multiple Copies of the Same App

PortableApps.com Platform 13.0 introduced the ability to use and update multiple copies of the same app. Once you’ve installed the app you’d like more than one copy of, browse to your PortableApps directory and make a duplicate of the AppNamePortable folder you’d like another copy of. Copying and pasting it in Explorer will work fine. Rename the second copy to AppNamePortable_Copy_2 (replacing AppName with the name of the app). You can have up to 10 copies of the same app with the 10th being AppNamerPortable_Copy_10. Now, when you check for updates within the PortableApps.com Platform, the update will applied to all copies of the same app. Be sure to preserve your original AppNamePortable copy as that will be the one the updater uses to determine when all of them need an update. Note that a couple of apps maintained by the publisher using a much older version of the PortableApps.com Installer may not support multiple copies of an app (example: Task Coach Portable).

Disabling a Portable App’s Splash Screen

Many apps packaged in PortableApps.com Format include splash screens so the user sees quick feedback an app is starting on slower flash media and doesn’t accidentally try to start it again. The splash screens also serve to let users know that they’re using a repackaged version of an app and to visit us first for portable support issues. If you’d prefer not to see the splash screen, disabling it is a snap.

PortableApps.com Platform — Click Options and select the Advanced tab. There, you’ll see a checkbox to disable splash screens across all our apps. Note that this will only affect splash screens shown by the PortableApps.com Launcher and not splash screens displayed by the apps themselves (GIMP, LibreOffice, etc).

Standalone — Within the AppNamePortable\Other\Source directory (where AppName is the name of the app you’re working with), you’ll find an AppNamePortable.ini file that includes some example options. Copy this file to the AppNamePortable directory and rename it, if necessary, to the name of the app (FirefoxPortable.ini or similar). Open the file within your preferred text editor, something like Notepad++ Portable. Within, you’ll find an entry DisableSplashScreen=false which just needs to be set to true. Save the file and the app will launch without the splash screen. This setting will be remembered as you upgrade the app, too.

Some apps include their own splash screen within the apps themselves (GIMP, LibreOffice, Scribus, etc). For these splash screens, there is sometimes an option within the Options of the app to disable it, a specific text file to modify, or a command line option to pass (which the PA.c Launcher can usually pass via the AdditionalParameters= setting in the INI file mentioned in the «Standalone» section above. You’ll need to check the app’s documentation from the publisher to be sure.

Installing

Now, installing is a bit different depending on whether you are installing the suite, installing an app within the suite or just installing a standalone app.

Installing the PortableApps Suite

1. Start the Installer — Find the installer you downloaded in the steps above (usually on your desktop) and double-click it to start the install process
2. Install To — The installer will ask where you’d like to install to. It’s best to select the «root directory» of your portable device. So, if your portable device is plugged in and shows up as drive E in Windows Explorer, you’d select the path E:\ You can easily just click the browse button next to the Install To line and then select your drive and click OK to fill this in.
3. Click Ok — Once you’re sure you’ve picked the right place to install to, just click ok.
4. Waiting — Installation will take a while. It will take anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes depending on the speed of your drive. There will be times where the progress bar isn’t moving during this time. Be patient. It’s installing. If your portable device has a little light on it that lights up when it’s being used, you’ll see it flickering.
5. You’re done — Once the install window goes away, it’s installed. You can use the suite by browsing to your portable device and double-clicking on the StartPortableApps.exe file.

Installing an App In PortableApps Suite

1. Start Your Menu — First, be sure you’ve start the PortableApps Menu. Usually Windows will ask you to start it when you plug in your drive. You can also double-click on StartPortableApps.exe within the root directory of your drive.
2. Select Install — With the menu shown (click the little PortableApps icon in the system tray if you can’t see it) click the Options icon and then select Install a New App form the popup menu.
3. Install Window — The install window that comes up just tells you that you need a file in PortableApps Format (which you downloaded earlier). Just click the Install button on this window since you have one ready.
4. Select the Installer — In the file selection window that comes up, select the file you just downloaded (it should be on your desktop) and click ok.
5. Waiting — Apps can take from 1 to 10 minutes to install depending on the size of the app. Sometimes the progress bar won’t move for a minute or two. Your portable drive’s activity light should be flickering.
6. Done — When the app is installed, the install window will disappear and your PortableApps Menu will come back with your app’s new icon on it.

You can use your software by browsing to the location you installed it to and double-clicking on the launcher (For Firefox Portable, for instance, it would be FirefoxPortable.exe). If you’re using the PortableApps Menu and you installed manually, just click Options and then Refresh App Icons within the menu to make your new app show up.

Using the PortableApps.com Platform

To start up the PortableApps.com Platform, just double-click StartPortableApps.exe in the root of your portable drive. In many cases, Windows will ask if you’d like
to start PortableApps.com when you plug in your drive. Then, use the intuitive PortableApps.com Menu to launch your apps, browse your drive, search the web and more.

When using any portable software, here are a couple tips:

• Stay Safe — When using portable apps, it’s always a good idea to practice Safe Portable App-ing.
• Removing Your Drive — When you’re done, exit all portable apps and then wait for the activity light on your removable drive to stop flashing. Then click the eject button in the PortableApps.com menu and select to safely eject your drive. If you remove the drive while it is writing, you may lose data.

AntiVirus Scans of Apps and False Positives

All of our apps are scanned for viruses before release. Nearly all apps are scanned online using VirusTotal using dozens of antivirus engines. On each app’s homepage, you can click the Antivirus Scan link below the download button to link to its results. For apps above VirusTotal’s 650MB limit, we scan the files locally using Microsoft Defender Antivirus, ClamAV, and at least one other commercial antivirus engine. For these files, the Antivirus Scan link on the app’s homepage will link here.

Some false positive reports occasionally pop up in different antivirus products in conjunction with software. This is partially due to the compression and portablization techniques used but mostly due to a failure of some antivirus companies to bad virus definition updates or questionable heuristics detections. If you encounter a false positive, please test the file in another antivirus product before reporting the issue to us in the forums to ensure that it’s not an error in their software. Several companies make available online scanners for individual files, so you won’t even have to install software (VirusTotal, MetaDefender, Jotti). Note that these online scanners use dozens of antivirus engines and will generally show false positives in a few of them. False positives in engines like Jiangmin, Bkav, Qihoo, and Trapmine can safely be ignored. You can also use ClamWin Portable or Emsisoft Portable to scan on the go. Thanks for your help.

Запуск программ в PortableApps.com

Значок PortableApps.com Platform отображается в области уведомлений (трее), если приложение установлено на жесткий диск компьютера. Если портативная платформа установлена на флешку, то значок отобразится после подключения  USB накопителя к ПК, в том случае, если на компьютере не отключен автозапуск с внешних устройств.

В целях безопасности автозапуск с внешних устройств отключают, поэтому запустить оболочку нужно непосредственно с флешки, кликнув по приложению «Start». Программы можно запускать непосредственно из папки PortableApps, войдя в папку программы. В этом случае, программа будет работать независимо от оболочки.

Для запуска нужной программы в PortableApps.com, кликните по иконке соответствующего приложения. Большинство программ работает на русском языке. Часть программ сразу будет работать на русском языке, в других приложениях для включения русского языка, нужно войти в настройки программы.

Программы запускаются после клика по иконке, или из контекстного меню правой кнопки мыши. В этом случае, можно выполнить дополнительные действия: запустить, запустить от имени администратора, обновить, переименовать, удалить и т. д.

После нажатия на «Все портативные приложения», в оболочке отобразятся категории, в которых находятся соответствующие программы. Кликните по нужной категории для отображения программ в данной категории.

Для перемещения программ между категориями, кликните по значку программы правой кнопкой мыши, выберите пункт контекстного меню «Категория», далее выберите категорию из списка, или создайте новую категорию.

Организация и настройки в PortableApps.com

Для открытия меню оболочки, кликните по значку PortableApps com Platform в области уведомлений. Вы увидите установленные (в моем случае на флешку) Portableapps программы. В нижней части окна оболочки находится индикатор, отображающий место, занятое портативными программами на флешке или на том диске, на котором находится программа PortableApps.com.

Из разделов меню «Документы», «Музыка», «Изображения», «Видео» можно войти в соответствующие папки на том диске, на котором установлена оболочка PortableApps.com.

В разделе «Просмотр» отрывается диск (флешка) или папка с PortableApps.

С помощью раздела «Архивация» можно создать резервную копию PortableApps.com с установленными портативными программами, или восстановить PortableApps.com Platform из резервной копии.

Из раздела «Приложения» можно проверить обновления, загрузить новое приложение, установить приложение, обновить иконки, показать скрытые иконки.

Для изменения параметров приложения нажмите на «Настройки». В окне «Настройка» организуйте список приложений по своим предпочтениям, выберите подходящую тему оформления.

В правом нижнем углу приложения расположены две кнопки: для выключения компьютера и для отключения PortableApps Platform.

Uninstalling the PortableApps.com Platform

Since the PortableApps.com Platform is self-contained, uninstalling is a snap. To remove, you simply delete its files. This would be the Documents and PortableApps directories as well as the Start.exe and autorun.inf files in the root directory. If you don’t have any data you wish to save on your portable device, you could also format it if you’d like. If you do have data within the Documents directory you’d like to save, simply delete the directories you don’t wish to keep. To remove the custom icons on the Documents directory (or any others), just delete the hidden desktop.ini file within each directory.

Adding PortableApps.com Format Apps to the PortableApps.com Menu

The easiest way to add new apps to your platform is to use the built-in PortableApps.com App Store. Just click Apps — Get More Apps… and then select how you would like to see the apps organized (by category, by name, new apps, or recent updates). Check off the apps you’d like to install and then click Next. The platform will automatically download and install them for you. And, since you’re getting them from PortableApps.com, you know they’ve been checked for malware and viruses and haven’t been altered since we checked them.

The PortableApps.com Menu can automatically add apps in PortableApps.com Format from outside the app store, too. Just download the the PortableApps.com Installer (ending in .paf.exe) for the app you’d like to add (like FileZilla Portable, for instance). Then, in PortableApps.com Menu, click Apps — Install a New App and then select the FileZilla_Portable_X.Y.paf.exe file you just downloaded. The PortableApps.com Menu will automatically install it to the proper location for you.

You can also run the installers directly. As long as you have your portable apps installed to the standard location, they will automatically find your PortableApps.com drive, install and tell the menu to refresh.
