Installing ADB Drivers via Windows Driver Update Tool

This section would come in very handy for stubborn devices or phones with a highly modified system. Use this only when the other recommended solution fails to drive your android device.

• Enable USB debugging for your device (using the tips at the first page)
• Connect it to the computer via the USB cable and
• Launch the device manager by ==> pressing windows logo+R ==> type devmgmt.msc in the dialog box ==> hit enter or OK and wait for the next window to open fully
• Locate your new device (usually marked with the warning yellow triangular sign or question mark close to it) from the drivers list and right click on it

Select the Update Driver Software option and pick the option to search automatically for updated driver.

Второе уже зависит от того, на какой однокристальной системе работает смартфон: Qualcomm или MediaTek (MTK).

Сначала разберемся, как установить USB драйвер для Xiaomi:

Универсальный драйвер

1. Скачиваем сам драйвер (кнопка выше) на Xiaomi для Windows и распаковываем его на рабочий стол.
2. Нажатием комбинации клавиш «Win + R» открываем меню «Выполнить». Вводим команду «devmgmt.msc» и нажимаем ОК.

На экране появится окно с диспетчером устройств. Нажимаем на строку с именем компьютера (первая сверху) правой кнопкой мыши (или просто щелкаем по кнопке «Действие») и выбираем строку «Установить старое оборудование».

Появится мастер установки оборудования. Нажимаем «Далее» и выбираем «Установка оборудования, выбранного из списка вручную».

• Выбираем «Показать все устройства», затем «Далее», «Установить с диска» и «Обзор». Тут задача лишь в том, чтобы в распакованной папке найти файл с расширением «.inf». Он имеет название «android_winusb.inf». Выбираем его, нажимаем «Открыть» и кнопку «ОК».
• На следующих шагах просто жмем «Далее» до самого конца и завершаем процесс.

Перезагружаем компьютер.

Android USB Drivers for Linux

Устройство в результате правильной установки драйвера должно определяться в разделе Порты (COM и LPT). Название устройства МОЖЕТ отличаться. Это несущественно!

How to Modify Google USB Drivers to Support Other Android Devices

Like we mentioned above, Google USB Drivers also work as ‘ADB Drivers’. But by default, they only support the Google Pixel and Nexus devices.

While Android OEMs do provide their own drivers, but it’s more often than they miss to include the required ADB USB drivers in them. In such cases, you can easily modify the ‘android_winusb.inf’ file in Google USB Drivers to support any other Android device to use the ADB and Fastboot tools.

In order for the drivers to support your non-Pixel/Nexus device, you will first need to acquire the Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID) of your device. Once you have them, the second step is to edit the ‘android_winusb.inf’ file and add a new device section with the VID and PID of your own device. And finally, the third and last step is to install the modified drivers.

Sounds confusing? It’s quite simple actually. Just follow the step-by-step instructions below.

Step 1: Get the VID and PID of your Android Device

1. First, connect your Android device to the PC using the USB cable.
2. Go to ‘Control Panel‘ > ‘Device Manager‘ on the PC.
3. Locate your unrecognized Android device. An unrecognized device can normally be located under the ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers‘ OR ‘Other devices‘ sections in Device Manager. You would see a yellow-colored triangle warning icon beside the connected device.
4. Right-click on the device name and click on ‘Properties‘.
5. Go to the ‘Details‘ tab and select ‘Hardware Ids‘ from the dropdown menu.
6. You should now see the Vendor and Product IDs of your Android device.

Step 2: Modify ‘android_winusb.inf’ file

Now that you have the required IDs, you can modify/edit the ‘android_winusb.inf’ file to add your device to the supported list.

1. First, locate the ‘usb_driver‘ folder on your PC. Inside the folder, you should have the ‘android_winusb.inf‘ file.
2. Open the file using a text editor and locate the ‘‘ section if your Windows PC is 32-bit (x86) or the ‘‘ section if your Windows PC is 64-bit (x64).
3. In the said section, you will see a number of items with the following format:

   ;
   %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx
   %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx&MI_xx

4. You can copy the above lines into the respective section and edit it accordingly.
5. The first thing to do is to replace the ‘‘ item with your actual device name (Nothing specific, it could be anything).
6. Next, you have to add your device’s VID and PID values to the %SingleAdbInterface% and %CompositeAdbInterface% items.
   1. In case your device also has a REV_xxxx ID, you will need to add two lines for the %SingleAdbInterface% item. One without and another with the REV ID. The line with the REV ID should look like:

      USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx&REV_xxxx

   2. For the %CompositeAdbInterface% item, you will further need to add ‘MI_01‘ ID towards the end. With the MI_01 ID, the line should look like:

      USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx&MI_01

7. For example, my Xiaomi Mi A3 has a VID and PID as ‘USB\VID_18D1&PID_D00D’ & ‘USB\VID_18D1&PID_D00D&REV_0100’. In that case, the lines should look like the following:

   ;Xiaomi Mi A3
   %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D00D
   %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D00D&REV_0100
   %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D00D&MI_01
   

Once you have added the lines under the proper section (depending on your PC’s architecture), save the file and exit.

Step 3: Install the Modified USB Drivers

You have now successfully modified the Google USB Drivers to support your Android device. The last step is to install these modified drivers for your device.

To do so, go to ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Device Manager’ and right-click on your device’s name. Then select ‘Update drivers’ to launch the Hardware Update wizard. Simply click on ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ and select ‘Browse’. Now locate the ‘usb_driver’ folder that contains the modified android_winusb.inf file and select it.

Finally, click on ‘Next’ to install the modified drivers for your device. That’s it! Your Windows PC should now recognize your Android device over ADB or Fastboot.

Installing the Google USB Drivers is the easiest solution to make your Windows PC successfully recognize your Android device. And while it should work for most other Android devices too, it’s not a hundred percent guaranteed. Download Google USB Drivers

There are two methods through which you can download Google USB Driver. You can directly download the USB Driver ZIP package for Windows, or you can use the SDK Manager in Android Studio to download. We have covered both the ways below.

We’d recommend installing the drivers manually because it is much easier than going through the SDK Manager in Android Studio.

1. Direct ZIP Package Download

These drivers are not plug-n-play. You would have to manually install these drivers afterwards. This package includes the latest Google driver android_winusb.inf to work with ADB and Fastboot tools.

NOTE: Do not try to modify the android_winusb.inf driver file in any way.

2. Download with SDK Manager in Android Studio

Step 1 – In Android Studio, click Tools > Android > SDK Manager.

Step 2 – Click the SDK Tools tab.

Step 3 – Select Google USB Driver and click OK.

Step 4 – Proceed to install the package.

That’s it! Now it will download the USB Driver and also install it.

How to install Android USB drivers

Now that you’ve downloaded the suitable driver package for your device, it’s time for you to install it. Some OEMs offer standard installer executables, which means you can easily install the whole driver suite by double-clicking on the setup file and following the wizard.

However, Google and a few other vendors prefer to stick with the bare INF and associated binary files which are packed inside a zip or rar archive. Such packages need to be installed using Device Manager, but you have to extract the contents of the archive beforehand.

Right-click on the Start button and select the Device Manager entry. You can also call the Microsoft Management Console snap-in named devmgmt.msc directly from Run to open Device Manager.

Connect the Android device to your PC. Depending on the selected configuration, you may see one or more unknown devices popping up.

Manually install the driver for an unsupported device

On some occasions, the OEM drivers aren’t enough. Perhaps you’ve stumbled upon a no-name generic tablet, or the flash mode interface of your shiny new phone has yet to get an official driver from its maker. In that case, you can forcibly install an existing driver package for a similar USB interface through Device Manager.

• Open Device Manager and locate the unknown device entry.
• Right-click on it and select Update drivers. Select Browse my computer for driver software and then choose the option named Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

This method lets you force-install a signed driver without breaking its digital signature, so you don’t need to turn off driver signature enforcement on a 64-bit Windows instance.

You’ve now got the correct USB driver installed on your computer and your Android device is ready to receive instructions. Now it’s time to put it all together and run your first ADB command!

How to Install ADB Drivers of Android device:

Step 1. Make sure you have USB debugging enabled in your Android device. For this:

1. Go to Settings > About phone, and then tap ‘Build number’ 7 times.
2. Go back to Settings, then choose ‘Developer options’.
3. Find the ‘USB debugging’ / ‘ADB Debugging’ option and use its toggle button to enable it. Accept warning by tapping on OK button.

Step 2. Connect your device to your PC/Laptop using a properly functional USB cable. Now launch the downloaded ADB file.

Step 3. Select your device from the list & click on Install. This process might take 2-3 mins to complete.

Step 4. Once the process is completed, you’ll see something similar to this:

Переустановите драйвер смартфона

Когда вы подключаете смартфон к компьютеру, драйверы загружаются автоматически для Windows. Если автоматическая загрузка или сами драйверы не работают должным образом, драйверы удаляются с ПК. Для этого вы вызываете обзор системы с помощью комбинации клавиш Win+R или в меню «Пуск» выберите опцию «Выполнить». В появившемся окне необходимо вписать devmgmt.msc и кликнуть «ОК».

Каждый обзор прошивки на какой-то девайс начинается с обязательной установки драйверов ADB, как раз на этом шаге многие пользователи отказывают от идеи прошивки своего гаджета. Однако не все так страшно, как кажется на первый взгляд.

Проблема ADB

Разработчик пытался угодить всем устройствам за раз, потому что поиск драйверов на каждый отдельный девайс и постоянные проблемы с официальными приводили к поломки планшетов. Так вот, пытаясь угодить всем сразу, приложения настолько было перегружено, что очень часто возникали проблемы с нестыковкой и не соответствию драйверов. Просто на просто вместо одних устанавливались другие, или одни файлы (ненужные) замещали собой нужные, и это приводило к сбою.
